Help Desk

We are currently using SipceWorks for our help desk.  But it has so many additional features, which make it drag like molasses.  I was going to sign up for the Activant / Prelude help desk, because I like the Prelude desk pretty well, but the price is a little steep.

So, I am looking for a good alternative, similar to the Prelude desk, which is not too expensive.  I was wondering if anyone has any experience with inexpensive help desks, which can be hosted locally on a PC.

I like this forum, but it would probably be a little difficult for people to reassign posts to different users - IT staff.

We currently use Clientele HelpDesk from Epicor Software Corp and have been happy with it for years.

We have been using Redmine <http://www.redmine.org/> for almost two years now.  It's a really slick system and will do AD/LDAP authentication. It's free and will run nicely on a virtual machine.

You can also check out OSTicket <http://osticket.com/>.  Also free.

We used the Ticketsmith module from Dotproject (free) for about 5 years, but I wouldn't recommend it -- we hacked it up quite a bit to make it do what we wanted.
