Printer.select presents a prompt to select printers.  I am trying to find out how to modify the process.  Activant has made modifications in the DMDRIVERS record and they report that somewhere in attribute four there is a control for showing all printers in the select list or only showing the ones created in the security record for a user.

How can I get more control over this process?  I would like to be able to turn on and off the full selection and maybe be able to mask certain printers from the list.

Thanks

I just checked your system and I'm not seeing anything in your version of PRINTER.SELECT that's any different from the standard.  Also, as this is an SB+ thing I'm not seeing where it's going to be easy to customize.  However, customization may not be necessary as this process can be really pretty robust with the right configuration.

Each printer can be assigned a "Current Location" in /PHYSICAL.PRINTER.  Each security group (setup in /SEC.USER.SETUP) can be assigned a group of printer locations they have access to.  And then users (setup in /SEC.USER.SETUP) are associated to groups and that limits the options a user can see when they press F3 in this window.  The key to all this is mapping your physical printers to specific physical locations and then having all of your users (and yeah, I know there's a BUNCH) in the right security group with the printers they should use.
