Much of our work is on a variety of Unix variants (HP-UX, AIX, Linux,et al.) so it's easy to become very comfortable with the "sh" command to "shell out" to the underlying operating system.  On Windows machines, however, "sh" doesn't work.  You can enter "!cmd" to get there, but that's a symbol and two more characters to type - and for those of us who end up typing "sh" first only to remember that we're on Windows and then type "!cmd" (usually misspelled or wrong due to the symbol) there's a lot more typing going on than is absolutely necessary.

Well enough is enough.  Today I had finally had it with this issue and created a VOC pointer to the "!cmd" as follows:

VOC SH
001 PA
002 !CMD

I copied this "SH" record to "sh" as well so I can enter the command in upper or lower case, and now I can "shell" into Windows!  I know it's a minor deal in the global scope of things, but it's been amazing how this little VOC pointer has improved my productivity!

I never thought about sharing the number of VOC additions I've made to make my life easier!  I suppose I should post some of the shortcuts I've added....

(hmmm... more posts for the stats!! Smiley)
